    Rachael and James's Impala: Ruby

I have mentioned this car a time or two on here and figured I would finally get some pics and info up about it. We are about to start working on it as soon as I get my gold car back up and running.

    1962 Chevy Impala
    283 with a powerglide
Been sitting for roughly 9 years. We are going to be dropping the tank and cleaning that all out, changing the oil and filter, replacing the battery and probably getting rid of all the coolant. She's been in a garage the whole time, but I am sure there's going to be a lot of worn stuff from sitting for so long. We haven't exactly planned anything out just yet. Just want to get her back up and running first. Then we will have proper pictures.

Very cool, hope the seals in the motor hold up after all those years.

Honestly, I don't care a whole lot about this motor. We are more than likely going for an LS/L92 swap. Pretty sure there is going to be some suspension work done too, possibly in the form of Air Ride.

It's been hibernating since 2002ish. I haven't really even thought about it much until recently. I am trying to get the garage cleaned up enough to get the car a spot to park. This thing hasn't been outside for 9 years or so. Definitely not going to park it out there now.

Wow, almost exactly one year later and I still haven't moved the car. In other news, I have acquired the 6.0 that will take the place of the puny 283. It is a high mileage motor that was pulled out of some kind of chevy pickup. This is going to be a stock rebuild with no modifications other than those needed to get the motor to fit. Pictures to come when my phone quits being stupid.

This is basically a copy/paste from LS1tech, but here's somewhat of an update. Still haven't moved the car, but the parts are starting to pile up already.

A lot of the parts that we are going to be using again have already been cleaned. We are going to try to use all the truck accessories, including the water pump, but we are undecided as to what kind of intake/fuel rail/injector combo we should go with. This car is going to be setup as a cruiser, nothing real powerful. If there are a few parts that could be had for cheap enough that we are going to have to buy anyways, like the intake manifold, then we may upgrade those. Got a fuel pump for free that I would love to try to adapt to this, but I don't know if it is going to be possible or not. We will see. Also just bought a pcm and harness for it. Got it pretty cheap and that gets us one step closer.

I bought all of the gaskets, bolts, and seals along with the oil pump, lifters and oil pan. Also have a starter, throttle body, fuel rail and injectors all coming as well. Picked up an LS1 intake from my buddy for $20. It's nice having awesome friends. Rachael and I are going to start building the motor within the next week. Then we can go get her car and bring it to the house. Pics to follow of course.

I am as absolutely jealous as possible! Such a sweet car, esp. In 2 door. My faves were 63 & 62. I always check the local for sale listings for a cheap one...just incase.

Looks like its in great shape on the outside. If it sees the light of day snap some bigger pictures.

Oh, it will be coming out of her parents' garage in hopefully a week or 2. Just trying to secure a time with my buddy when we can get the car moved. He has a truck and trailer that we are going to use.

My wife used to drive this car to high school. Before this one, she drove a 4 door '62. It wasn't as pretty as the 2 door, but still a really nice car that I wouldn't mind nabbing from her brother. We have many firsts in that car, if you know what I mean. TMI, lol.. Anyways, her dad had this 2 door semi-restored on the exterior. Looks great except for where the hood kinda opens funny. The paint needs a little touching up right there, but that's all as far as paint work. Pics will be coming soon. I promise.

My wife has owned it since some time in the '90s I think. Her dad picked it up for pretty cheap around then as a project for the 2 of them. They just never had the time to get together on it. It's been in her parents' garage since 2002. So it's been sitting for 10 years. We are going to be changing it up very soon. We have big plans for this car, and the motor swap is only the beginning.

Here's the only new pic I have at the moment. We got the block completely cleaned up and painted. I think it turned out great. We used the Engine Enamel Primer, Paint and Clear. Hoping that this holds up better than the other paint jobs I have done. I took my time on this one and cleaned everything up very well before it got paint.

We have started the reassembly, but it is a slow moving process. Been kinda busy this weekend. Hoping to have the motor assembled this week. I have some more stuff to clean up though because I didn't realize how good the block and valve covers look. It is going to make everything else look terrible. More pics to come.
