    #lolnojz

Figured I'd finally put one of these up for those of you following things, but aren't on the book of faces.

    1990 Toyota Supra.

In lieu of the typical swap choices of the 1/2J I6's, or the slightly less typical Toyota offering (and the route I had been aiming for in the last Supra), the 4L 1UZFE, we're getting... Sloppy, with this build.

LS6 bottom, 241's, LS1 Intake. Still trying to decide how far to go with it, at this point. Studs all around, LS9 HGs and regapping the rings at minimum, but I'm entertaining going forged as well. (If the deals can be found.) Control as of now, will be via my old MS2v3.

'02 80k 4L80E. I'm tossing a HD2 kit at it along with a ACC (or OE) converter and letting it eat. Still undecided between Megashift or other for control, I have no interest in fully manual.

This will be feeding into a OEM Toyota 3.73 LSD (will be interesting...)

We're still undecided on many items beyond all of that. I currently have two local shops giving competing bids to do the chassis work (NHRA legal Cage), meanwhile, fitment for the turbo setup is still massively in the air. I have a set of Vortec manifolds sitting at a local's garage, and there are a few aftermarket options that may be explored. Only time will tell with this, as I have no idea what will work until I've banged, beaten and forced the engine and trans into place...

Stay tuned, guys. Progress is slow, but steady.

Not a slight against you guys. I established a solid rule of thumb for my new(er) FB that if I don't know someone from RL interaction, I don't add 'em on Facebook. My last one had almost as many forum people on it as classmates from High School. Lol.

You can use the ms2 hooked to a gpio board over the CAN lines and build the gpio board it to control the 4l80E...or there are other trans only controls out there. I think they use map/rpm/vss to control the shifting.

Predominantly a weekend cruiser, but it will certainly be spending a healthy amount of time at the 1/4 and looking for trouble on the expressways.

Aim is a semi-conservative 650-700 at the wheel on the aluminum 5.7, though this may change as the build progresses if I go to a 5.3 or 6l. End-game is to double what I did with half the cylinders and displacement in the last car. Anything past that is purely shits and giggles.

They are certainly not light out of the box. Iron block, intercooled turbo kit, absurdly solid unibody made of more lapped sheetmetal than I've seen on most other cars, bulky 80's convenience and comfort features, a metric shit-ton of glass, 1/4" of undercoating and about 100 lbs of cabin sound deadening and insulation.... They are on par with a 4th gen f-body, about +/-3500. All told, once done- cars prepped like mine have ended up around 3000~3200, while retaining the iron I6 (roughly 120lbs heftier than the LS6), so with the full gut & strip, but weight of my trans and yet to be determined single turbo setup, I'm assuming 3100 ballpark. More than light enough to be downright frightening at the planned output levels.

    http://www.msgpio.com/manuals/mshift/4L80E/4L80.html yes?

There is a plethora of standalone options, trans control is one area still wholly undecided.

If I had ended up with any of those Vortecs I had been eyeballing before, I wouldn't even be considering it. Given the comparative weaknesses of the LS1/6 though, it's wholly in the cards at my projected output levels. Will it take it stock? Yes, absolutely. I'm not as sure about the longevity of it at that point though. And to blow this engine would be a bit more expensive of a boo-boo as opposed to popping a 5.3... We'll see. I may very well get it running on this longblock, then jump to an LQ4, LM7 or L33 later. With the 5.3s, I'd even be able to have them hogged out to the 3.898 to 3.905 bore of the LS6, swap in the forged goods from said LS6 and end up with just as stout of a rotating assembly, but in a stronger block.

700 is my par-time, so to speak. After that, it may come down to "how much can we squeeze from an S472 before KR gets scary?!"

    Short answer? Yes.

The flat top pistons in the LQ9 and the ensuing slight compression bump (ONLY difference between the two) isn't nearly reason enough for me to ever consider hunting for the pricier option. The 6L are hard enough to snag in general to be picky, honestly.

    A 150k LQ9 can currently fetch the same price as a 60k LS1. Absurd.

    That's terribly absurd, considering it's just an LQ4 with LS2 pistons. >_>
