    Door chime

Has anyone had a problem with the door chime dinging with the door open? No keys in ignition and headlights are off. Any help would be great thanks

I have 255K on my ignition switch (97 SC2) and every once in a while this will happen.
I have found it to be caused by the "spring loaded" sliding portion of the key insertion/detection mechanism (sorry, don't know the correct part name) getting "hung up" inside the switch upon key removal.

Basically, the car thinks the keys are still in the ignition.

Reinsert and remove the key. You should hear a distinct seating of this part of the ignition switch if it closes properly when you remove the key---and the chiming will cease.

I use graphite powder in all the locks and the ignition switch to keep things lubricated. Available at Home Depot in the lock department in small tubes.

I have tried to reinsert the key some times it helps but then starts again. I haven't used graphite but I will pick some up and try it thanks for the suggestion
