    Re: The Zombie Saturn

    Few things to add

I found a set of B-pillar covers in great shape at the junkyard.

    before

    after

I received a couple manual Idle Air Control valves from ProDarwin. One went on the SL's SOHC GEO TB. The clearance gained allows me to finally mount my AMR strut tower bar.

Before, strut bar resting on IAC valve.

    Now, plenty of room!

The valve is awesome! It makes shifting so much more fun. Its now easier and quicker to shift without the clutch during normal driving. I had to adjust my normal take-off clutch and throttle inputs, but the valve is definitely an improvement. I haven't beaten on it yet, but it shouldn't have changed anything in that respect really. One thing I did notice is that with my cam, I would occasionally get funky vac to the brake booster, causing my peddle to occasionally change in stiffness/feel from stop to stop depending on engine RPM at the time. With this manual valve, however, I have not had the problem yet. I think I will try to create some sort of manual 'choke' mechanism for cold start ups, it just needs something to give a consistent 1-2% of throttle. A cable connected to the top of the gas peddle and routed up to a handle near the shifter or ignition, with either a screw or latching adjustment would do the trick. Or I could just learn to give it a tiny amount of throttle for a while.

The AMR strut bar is also an improvement over my ebay crap bar. The car feels more stable and 'solid' when steering, braking and cornering. I also noticed an improvement over bumps/rough road, I can feel the struts absorbing the jolt as apposed to flexing the frame and rattling the interior. The vibrations from the Groundpounder are also less pronounced, they are still there, but are less severe in the cabin.

    Current engine bay:

Note that I switched out the OBX top radiator hose for a stocker. Stupid thing would not stop leaking. The lower one doesn't leak, so I'm not going to loose all my coolant just to switch it out.

There still so much to do, as you all know. I really need to get a black or red coupling for my intake, and take the time to polish the intake pipe. I suppose a catch-can would be a wise investment as well, the battery needs to move to the trunk, I need to finish my 3rd gen bumper conversion, and so on...

Found more treasure at the Junkyard!

This was just sitting on the ground, stuck under the SW2 it came off of. Its in better shape than my JY'ed rear bumper.

Its a twin cam, I swear!

I also stole the sun visors out of that wagon, as they were mint. Mine were getting ratty. I must have touched one with brake fluid on my fingers or something, it was literally desegregating. No pics of that, you know what they look like.

Gotta love JY upgrades. I'm hopin' to find a pair of bumpers to upgrade my 94 SW1. Can't seem to find em in blue, though...

    Re: The Zombie Saturn

    thanks guys!

Cooter, this car is about 50% JY parts, and I'm being serious.

Yea, I want fogs, and will get some eventually. However, They will not be going in the stock location. I would like to get some nice PIAA's or some other big brand and mount them like they are stock on 2nd gen SC2's (right to the underside of the impact bumper).

Remember, this thing is getting a 3rd gen SL2 bumper in time, this one is just because it was laying on the ground and the right color.

It's finally not cold anymore. Now it's just spring and rainy.

Good news, as of this spring, the SLno1 is officially filed under "3rd car" and can be truly a Project with a capitol P. I'm sure it will get pressed into service now and then, but it's safe from DD duties. This means the snow running gear is for sale and the Megasquirt project might actually begin over this summer.
