OFFICIAL Wheel and tire fitment thread!

Since about every 3rd question in this forum is something along the lines of "Is this going to rub?", I'm making this thread. Feel free to ask any and all wheel/tire fitment questions in here. But before you ask any questions, make sure you have included the following information in your post.

READ: Not you signature/avatar/comment/where ever the fuck you put it. People change cars, people have multiple cars, and most importantly, it makes the thread 100x easier to search. If you fail to follow this to the best of your ability, I'll warn you/maybe delete your post.

    Exact Model of Car
    Wheel Width
    Wheel Diameter
    Wheel Offset
    Tire Width
    Tire Aspect Ratio
    Tire Type
    Springs
    Camber (F/R)

    If you are on coil-overs:
    Spring rate (F/R)
    Ride height (F/R)

As a matter of fact, I'd suggest just copying the list and filling out the information when you post. Let me provide an example:

Exact Model of Car: 1995 SW2
    Wheel Width: 7.5"
    Wheel Diameter: 17"
    Wheel Offset: 42mm
    Tire Width: 235
    Tire Aspect Ratio: 35
    Tire Type: Hankook RS2
    Springs: Progress 1.8"
    Camber (F/R): -2, -0.75

The answer? I don't know yet. Haven't installed parts.

One thing I will add here: what some people consider to "clear" and what others do varies. It shouldn't be terribly subjective, but it is given that not all of us experience the same driving conditions, or take the time to move the wheel through its entire range of motion. Example: I had the following setup at some point many years ago:

Exact Model of Car: 1997 SC2
    Wheel Width: 7"
    Wheel Diameter: 16"
    Wheel Offset: 40mm
    Tire Width: 205
    Tire Aspect Ratio: 50
    Tire Type: Hankook K106
    Springs: H&R Sport
    Camber (F/R): -1.5, -1.5

Many many people on the forum have/had an extremely similar setup, but will tell you it clears. It does, 95% of the time. Under hard cornering however, the tire would contact the splash-guard. Evidence: http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...nt=tirerub.jpg

    So, keep in mind:

    A) What works for someone may or may not work for you.
    B) Please be honest and clear about any clearance issues.

depending on the actual tire it should fit. From what I remember some of the more autocross specific tires run wider so you may get a little rub. Also you're gunna have to make sure your alignment is good, with what i have my car set at i could see running one size up in width and being good.

I should also note that i have note that I have no rub with stock size tires either 185/65R15.

Now I wanna throw this out there, I was thinking about going with something a bit different for my new car. Something like this, wondering how well it could fit..

Exact Model of Car: 1995 SC2
    Wheel Width: 8"
    Wheel Diameter: 16"
    Wheel Offset: ?
    Tire Width: 215
    Tire Aspect Ratio: 50
Springs: H&R cut 2 coils in front and 2.5 coils in the rear
Camber (F/R): whatever will make them fit

something like this: http://www.rotawheels.com/wheels.asp?wheelid=32 or a slipstream (cheaper)

I'd probably be running the falken 912's

I'm not sure what offset I would need. the first set of wheels comes in a 35 or 38, but the slips would come in a 40 or 34 offset. I don't want them to rub tooo much. I don't mind cutting/molding some plastic though. Thinking about going for flush even though I'm sure some people wouldn't be too fond of the stretch/flush look. Also I'll be running the 1/2" spacers in the rear.

Re: The official wheel and tire fitment thread!

Joe remember I ran a larger tire then that 225/50x16 and my car really wasn't very low. I'd be real careful with something like that on a drop spring car where travel also become a concern.

As for the man asking about the 225/50x15, yes they should fit providing you have the proper offset wheels, which it looks like you do.

Yay, a productive thread. Thanks guys. First post updated with Tire Type, and some further notes.

Adam, stock sized tires rub with your Sprint 2.5 setup?

Yes, and pretty far off full lock as well. I can hear it destory the inner fender liners when pulling into a parking place or something like that. Rubs on the front liner, and also the rear liner in front of the doors as well.

Re: The official wheel and tire fitment thread!

I was going to go with the Falken 912's also, I wanted to make sure they wouldn't rub.. If the wheel offset wasn't right, I was going to grab some 5mm spacers. It needs tires and an alignment anyway, so I'm going to try and knock out the entire suspension and brakes setup at the same time, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to rub right off the bat.

    Camber (F/R): factory
    Clear: for the most part
Rub: probably close to full compression and definitely close to lock

these are mounted on steel wheels that came off my cobalt. i believe the offset is slightly less then saturn (not sure though). i rub badly near lock. it has ate away the edge of my liner and fender lip is gone and is eating more of it. the tires barely clear sitting.

now for a question, which adam has somewhat answered but i will add to it.

Exact Model of Car: 1995 SL2
    Wheel: 15" Sawtooth
    Tire Width: 225
    Tire Aspect Ratio: 50
Tire Type: Falken Ziex 512 OR Nitto NT 450 OR BFG G-Force Sport
    Springs: Sprint 2.0
    Camber (F/R): factory

you think any of those tires would fit? as long as they clear the fender going down the road and compression, but rub near lock, i could care less. my fender is rubbed away quite a bit. so i have some extra clearance. the falken seem most appealing as they are $68

Ian I wouldn't really worry at all about fender clearance with that setup, I would however worry about clearance between strut and tire. It would be close but I bet it would clear.
