I'm more skeeved out if I have higher lift cams that it'll make shit interfere. I'll send an email out to Ross to get their input. I suppose I didn't have contact issues with the original pistons with my .040 deck and no reliefs on the exhaust side.

After holding both pistons (Old and new) over the open valves and eyeballing the height from the head deck, I've concluded that there isn't much of a difference between the two. Of course that's not the most accurate assessment since I was also using my hands to try to center the pistons the best that I could over the valves while using the head gasket as a bore reference.

But I compared the old Ross piston to a SOHC piston and they have the same over all dimensions/height and the SOHC piston has a way bigger flat area than either piston. That's similar to what Sam was saying, if we've got guys who DOHC swap a SOHC bottom end and aren't bashing valves, this should be alright.

Ross also confirmed that it would be alright. Just dropped the pistons off at the shop.

Called up the machine shop and it sounds like they are kinda mobbed. I'll have to wait a couple weeks to have them confirm block deck flatness and what the bore diameter will be before ordering the MLS gasket.

Guess this gives me time to try and set up the knock sensor like I should have before.

The machine shop should have my junk ready by the end of the week.

    Things I need to acquire/do:
    1. New MLS gasket
    2. New oil pan w/ turbo drain fitting welded in so it doesn't leak this time.
    3. New oil feed line that doesn't leak this time [Thinking about tapping one of the stock freeze plugs for this]
    4. TCC oil pump mod
    5. Oil Catch can & PCV system.

Got the block, head, pistons, rings, AND main caps back from the shop today.

It only cost me 50 bucks extra to be lazy and have them gap the rings for me. Now to continue procrastinating on everything else.

So here's a question. What does 50RA feel like for the head and the block?
Obviously its something that has to be measured with a gauge, but Im running my fingers perpendicular to the mill "hatching" or cut marks and can distinctly feel the contours of it. Running fingers parallel to the cuts feels alright. I've got no idea what 50RA looks like, but I figured it would be a smooth, mirror like finish.

Any thoughts? I'm concerned since this is kind of important for the MLS deal.

    *edit*

I guess looking at this image, 50RA seems similar/rougher than what the block looks like.
    http://www.gandmtools.co.uk/shop/rub...e-face-turned/

Its a legit race/machine shop. I just never paid attention to what 50RA really looked/felt like.

I'm not sure it would be quite like a mirror finish but it should look like it was machined lol.

Sent payment for the MLS gasket today.
Going to pack up cams to send to ACC tomorrow.
Ordered valve seals and an oil bypass valve.

Still need to move forward and order/make
    - Oil Feed/Return lines and fittings
    - Oil Pan & drain fitting
    - PCV/Catch can [No idea what a reasonable price/brand for this would be]
    - Turbo blanket
    - Intake elbow for 3rd gen manifold to relocate throttle body
    - 3rd gen intake coolant port replacement deal.

Id like for that to be the case. It would be dope to hitch it up to the Vue and take the whole fail-train down.

Just mailed the cams to ACC for Stage-II magic.
Hoping that Adv. Auto comes through with new bearings to replace the ones that got jacked in my crank kit by tomorrow.
If they do then the bottom end is going together this weekend.

Adv. Auto is coming through on the bearings. Going to get some Sealed Power bearings by Wed. afternoon hopefully.
I started lapping valves yesterday. Clamping the valves in a hose connected to a power drill definitely helped with cleaning the carbon off of the stem and face. Unfortunately, the Lifter bores are too narrow for me to use the hose clamps to lap the valves with the drill. Guess its back to the suction cup deal for that one.

As far as using the plastic manifold for this thing, there's just not a good way to block that vacuum port that will need to stand up to boost... I'm coming to the conclusion that I should just pony up and buy a Multimatic 220 to TIG my own manifold together. It would be a nice improvement over my Lincoln 140HD. The only downside is $$$. It was released late last year and there won't be any used ones floating around CL.

We'll see if I can stop myself from having too much fun and blowing shit up this time around. I'm definitely aiming to have it at the dragon with you guys.

Just got off the phone with Joe at ACC to confirm details for the Stage II cams. He ended up mentioning that he helped Ian out with developing Ian's cams back in the day [not sure if they were the actual chopstix]. Joe's a golden guy. Can't wait to be able to rev past 6k!

No, I think all forged rods are made for the shorter rod length(1st - 2nd gen).

Ditch the 3rd gen rods and never have to deal with TTY bolts again.

You can still use the drill. Cut the suction cup thing in half. Thread a bolt into it, cut the head off the bolt and stick it in your drill. It's way better then doing it by hand.

Oh and that would be really awesome to have a bunch of boosted turds at the dragon again. That brings back some memories.

RJ is planning on bringing his turbo SL. I invited Chris. If everyone shows that would be 5 boosted turds maybe more! 🦅
