I am visiting Detroit to see a friend who works at Ford and by chance ran into a Ford Edsel club meet at my hotel parking lot.

They could be Saturn owners (time shifted) when you speak to them about the maligned and neglected Edsel (1958-60). These older guys and gals are crazy about keeping their cars alive. Some drove pretty far.

Dug my dads ol 64 tempest today. Car hasn't seen daylight in probably 5 years. Bought it off an auction an pretty much sat since. Need to change out an axle shaft, starter, and other odds an ends to get it road worthy. Think he's planning on gettin rid of it.

Didn't make it racing with the Bentra yesterday

However, we did fix the evap issue, which solved a bunch of idle issues as well. And the O2 code issue. The car has no check engine light, which is a very weird feeling. Now we just need to fab a new midpipe.

Ordered a replacement coil pack off eBay. Turned out it doesn't really fit. I made it fit anyway and that fixed my random misfire problem. Bought an ac Delco replacement for that and it seems to run even better.

I've made plans to drive to Detroit from Indianapolis to buy $900 worth of random crap for the Astra in the first couple weeks of September.

Otherwise, rapidly 'finishing' my remodel of the empty side of my house so I can hopefully get moved by next week as my 'guest' arrives the week after.

My autocorrect is severely broken thanks to the amount of Portuguese it has been having to handle. Just had to go back and correct autocorrect on this post multiple times...

Swapped fresh amp into volvo, as well as fixed the reverse lights (switch) and corroded seat motor. All works now, I love hastily salvaged cars.

Started drilling holes in the block so I can pin the cylinders to create a closed deck. Will document the process so if it works, it can be repeated.

i really don't know how to feel about this anti-confederate movment lately. If they want to erase the history of then then need to start pulling down the union memorials too. Can't only be one. The confederates had many soldiers tas well. I know it is more focused on the salvery side but shit happened. No one alive has been a slave. (unless they were in some third world nation). History is all of our history. You can't still hold Germany accountable for ww2 or the US for The a bombs in Japan

Need to patch my exhaust [Remove rusty sections & effed cat] on the silver car as well as weld up a new exhaust for the blue car.

Happily, the stainless shielding gas hasn't all leaked out from my bottle in the last 9 months . Hopefully getting both cars off jackstands tonight.

Been driving it. Done little-to-nothing to it, although there are a few things I need to get around to.

Been working on son's new 2001 Rodeo. horrible oil leak(s). Getting PO's half-assery resolved.

Co-worker gave me a set of 98-99 factory service manuals. Score! right years for me, too.

I am aware of sticking oil control rings in these engines (3.2 L and 3.5 L) before 2002. I assume you have the 3.2 L? I run Shell T6 5W-40 oil (in a '98 Isuzu Trooper with the 3.5L - very similar) which has a pretty good detergent package. The T6 Shell oil generally recommended on "Bob is the Oil Guy" website for this type of engine.

But maybe your seals are just leaking or oil rings are already badly stuck; better oil won't help that much. Poor maintenance may have partially killed it! High ring blowby also wreaks havoc on the seals.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the heads-up, but no, it's the X22SE (or Y22SE, per the manual) Holden-built, Opel-based, 2.2L 4cyl.

Biggest oil leak seems to be at the valve cover gasket, we changed that out tonight. It was also leaking where the crankcase breather tube bolts to the block (saw bubbles there yesterday). Cut a fresh gasket for that and swapped that out tonight, too.

I'm currently running rotella t4 15w-40 in my turd, will probably try to convince my son to go that way with the rodeo. Mostly due to cost but also because you can find the stuff just about anywhere, except competitor's gas stations. And it's good oil besides.

That's great info. I didn't know that Euro or Australian engines made it to North America in Isuzu products.

Also, I use the T6 Rotella 5W-40 in my old '92 SL2 (rebuilt) as a half-assed experiment to see if the oil rings never coke up again. (Also I have drilled drain holes in the oil ring groove). So far so good.
