    How To: Obd1 Data Logging

    A few months back I began the long arduous task of trying to datalog my obd1 turd, set forth by the very limited and lacking write up on saturnwiki.net
    After weeks of reading and trying to figure things out I found a few websites and discussions that peaked my interests and pushed me in the proper direction. Mainly this one: http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...ull=1#post7852

    To start you need to get one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arduino-FT23...tem3cbfdf c861 If this link dies, just google this "Arduino FT232RL adapter".
    A few lengths of wire
    Some solder
    Soldering iron
    Laptop
    EFILIVE v4 found here: http://www.efilive.com/additional-downloads
    Patience

    You need to connect one wire to the RX and TX pins from the board, and one wire to the ground. I used the instructions found here: http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...ll=1#post16161

    I found the proper pinout for the aldl connector under the dash of the saturn here: http://www.differentracing.com/tech_...diag_info.html

    So I connected the white wire in the photo below to the two wires on Terminal M in Different racing's diagram
    Then grounded the black wire in the photo to the bolt behind and to the left of the aldl plug.

    I scoured the internetz for a good vehicle def file. The one included in EFILIVE V4 is ok, however it is missing a lot of features/macros and is pretty limited. I Cant remember where I finally found it but I think it was on the SaturnFans forum.
    I have attached it for your convenience, unzip, then import to EFILIVE.
    From here I hope you can figure out the rest, for there are multitudes of walkthroughs on how to use EFILIVE's software.
    I have a video of me logging and testing features if anyone needs me to upload it.

    So I haven't read up on EFI live for OBDI, but is this program and set up just for diagnostic purposes?

    Diagnostic and real time data logging.

    I tuned my car with an aem fic, which heavily relies on the stock pcm being at or close to 0% fuel trims, which I had to figure out.

    You can get the injector duty cycle, pulsewidths, spark timing, and a host of other data points.

    You can read all the engines sensors in real time.

    I've noticed there's a lot of older versions of my LL0 Efilive definition floating around. Here's the latest one I've made, which includes a ton of Mode_04(Control) macro's, as well as updated Fuel / Spark / Idle values to watch.

    There has actually been a ton of growing interest in your work of late. Stick around man, you're a great resource.

    If I didn't hate the 1g interior, it just didn't age well. I would be all up in this. Glad you are back anyway.

    get a 95...obd1 goodness with the better interior...best of both worlds.
