Installing tablet as radio deice in Saturn, good?

What do you guys think of replacing the radio with a tablet?

You run it to the RCA in of a 4 channel amp going to the cabin speakers. Nice sound, storage, connectivity, video, pictures, etc. to my Saturn .

I got this clip, pro-clip mount . It is a flat place to mount the tablet over the center vent.

clip $30, ebay tablet 7 " covers double din area $46, damn cheap but works. Should I get the Bluetooth one for $64 and run androids torque app to the OBD port?

    What do you think?

Sounds like a nice setup....sadly its probably worth more than the car.

I haven't been shopping for any, but I think you can get an android table for less than $100.

Haha I'm totally planning to do this exact same thing. Here's my plan so far:
Relocate faceplate to radio (rather than using an amp for volume control, also still allows me to use radio)
Install Nexus 7 (1st gen) in front of where the base to the radio player is. Will be rooting with a kernel designed for cars.
Relocate the nexus 7 battery to help insulate it and keep it cooler.
Run the cigarette lighter to power nexus 7, 3.5mm from Nexus 7 for audio.

Edit: Also ordered a bluetooth OBDII reader to use Torque. Will be putting the Nexus 7 in the stock radio place.

Here is a pic of the hardware. I think I have an old kenwood x4 amp at 40watts rms with RCA ins. I will fit it behind the giant glove box or in the center dash somewhere. Get power from the lighter jack. Splice into the existing wires with 3m taps. Output the headphone to the RCA input of the amp, with combination cable. Leave everything to be returned to stock later.

Be sure to get the tablet with Bluetooth.

To make it removable I was planning (haven't tried yet) , on 3m hurricaine taping the silicone case for the tablet to the mount. Silicone case not shown but you have one for your phone and know what I mean.

Torque is fun to screw around with.

How are you going to adjust volume? For me I couldn't stand using the tablet to adjust volume hence keeping the radio faceplate.

Whether you press the buttons on the din unit , or the buttons on the tablet, its the same for me.

    If you want it fancy.

kustomworx-us , an ebay seller will custom make a 7" tablet front dash piece. Taking up the space of a double DIN head unit on the dash. They use the factory oem parts and panels for the base then add the mold with similar plastic. It looks tight.

Okay so where is the din going to be installed? And are you planning on having the volume buttons on your tablet accessible? I'm not sure how that will end up working out unless you wired them somewhere else.

Forget Kustomworks, they do nice work, but I'm using the pro-clip. I am taping the tablet to it flat. The buttons are there and the wires are easy to get to. I will tap the used 4channel amp(not shown) into it 3.5mm headphone to RCA, and output the amp to the speakers threw the radio harness. Charging ports, and buttons are accessable as it hovers out from the clip.

3M Taped on this pro-clip, pictured , in front of the center vents.

    Got it? its pretty cool.

Audio control has a eq called four one. I used it with my carputer back in the day. Worked great. It has 5v rca output and volume knob. And its thin. Use a rca-headphones.
Ok its a little expensive but they are built to last.

My plan is actually to use a Nexus 7 1st generation (first deal fell through :/ ) and use the pogo pins soldered to the official dock which has a 3.5mm output which will go into my headunit.

Went with double din with a removable faceplate instead.

Would be interested if I decide to sell my stereo in the near future

I had a nook color before this and I think steve was asking about the nexus 7 and I said it was hard with the nexus 7 since it didn't have the power button at the front but since my nook died and I have a nexus 7 I made it work by getting rid of my hazard button (who needs that shit anyways LOL) and installed a switch to turn on the tablet

    That is fucking awesome.

Although I use my hazards here and there.

PS. I might have missed it, but is the Nexus 7 removable? Seems like a theft hazard to me
