    Crank and rods dropped.

$8 a rod to enlarge wrist pin to fit forged pins. Because scat made the forged rods oem size, and forged pistons pims are .02" larger.

Getting a quote on grinding and balancing a crank.

Trying to find a local machine shop that can step deck this block on a CNC. I found a performance shop in Richmond that will do it, but they want almost $400

Mother fucker at the machine shop told me 8 weeks ago when I dropped the crank off "It should only be around $130 to regrind it." I told him I had .020" bearings already.

Picked it up today. $214 and they cut it to .010"....... Mother fuckers. I hate that kinda shit.

I could have gotten a brand new third gen crank from fucking rockauto, with bearings, for 179+shipping. Fucking dick.
    /Rant

At this point I'm done giving a fuck, and it's getting the cheapest bearings rockauto sells. So pissed.

All that work to just put crap bearings in it. Probably not the best idea, completely understand the rant but I'd hate to go back into that motor because I cut corners.

Engine tech ftw. Just really discouraged with this whole project, the crank was the last straw. I'm done throwing money at it. It's going together one way or another, and if I don't meet my goals it ok, it will still be a blast to drive.

I am boosting a motor on enginetech stuff too. Surprisingly, the LS group has had good luck with the chinese shit too, so maybe will be ok. I am only running 10lbs, and shifting at 6k, so my story of course is different than yours.

    Made progress.

Will be drilling the block and adding pins to support the deck. Build will end up being just north of 10.5:1 compression. On e85, looks like I will be octane limited to just shy of 20psi, should be north of 350 to the tire.

Will be picking the pins up after work. Test fitting them in a spare block, and if all goes well installing them in the good block and finish assembling the motor.

OK, so you're talking about placing pins down into the open area of the deck surface.

I was thinking you were talking about 'posting' the block, where you drill in from the sides, thread the holes, and then install machine screws to stabilize the upper end of the cylinders, followed by cutting off excess and sealing with epoxy. Similar concept and result, just different methodology.

your method appears to be simpler, in the end.

I'm right there with you but at least yours is a forged motor. Maybe we can both get ours running this year

I know someone that has been having headgasket issues with a high RPM methanol engine. He did some similar pinning and didn't have and issues that last time he was able to take his car out and beat on it. There seems to be some "walking" with the to of the cylinder casting at high RPM that pinning or golden eagle sleeve cures. A 2000+ windage tray helps but does not solve the problem entirely.

I'd like to see what this thing can do with the pinning.

I'm wondering if I should pin my block. My new engine is 3 years in the making so far. I'm trying to do as much as I can to make it hold up.
