    Megasquirt wiring diagram How-tos

    tapatalk_1396842362830.jpg
Here is the wiring diagram I created a couple of years ago. Never stray in any way from it and make up your own method.

These cars are electronically noisy, Poor grounds and cause issues with MS2v3.57 and lower versions. MS3 and up do not have the old resistor pots R56 and R52 found on the MS2 versions so this makes it a wire and fire but you have to cover the cost. If you're not shooting for all the tons of options it has to offer MS2v3.57 is the next best for multiple options. Then if you're into fuel only build MS1 is extremely cheap and fast.

Now on to soldering basics. Practice makes perfect. Take your time and never never use anything like scotch locks, but connectors and other lazy ways of connecting wires. You will use solder joints like shown in the pics on the crank sensor, intake air temp, coolant temp sensor and bank 1 and bank 2 fuel injector.

The stock PCM in OBD2 cars is able to clean up the signal from the noisy crank sensor because of the Brown wire on the ICM is Cylinder 4 firing signal to the PCM also. This acts like a cam position sensor and the pcm has a algorithm to decipher this mess. There comes the next argument is VR signal(Tapping directly to the crank sensor) vs Hall Effect signal(ICM creates the signal). If you have MS3 there is nothing to talk about here but with MS2v3.57 and older the VR signal can be finicky if not done 100% correct. Most aftermarket alternators and starters are extremely noisy so during start up(crap/cheap starter) or high engine RPMs(crap/cheap alternator) causes sync loss. If you get good quality parts and shield the crank wire properly you'll have no issues. For the extra protection and perfect signal you can solder in a 1/4watt 10,000ohm resistor from radio shack shown in the picture. D12 to R57 on the DB37 side. adjust the resistor pots fully counter clockwise and this should let the car fire right up with no cut out. Note: if your start up enrichments or IAC settings are set up or your tune is crap you will have a sync loss type feeling.

GROUNDS! Grounds are life. Our Cars suck so simply add more. The MS should be grounded directly to the engine and WILL NOT!! share a grounding location. In my opinion no grounds should ever share the same location. The picture all grounds are represented in blue.

VW Coil On Plug Mod. We have a guy who is making drop in mod cards that have Barometric Correction sensor, Launch control/2step and COP Mod. You wont have to use Logic drivers anymore like you do for the stock GM coils.

Then its all in the tune. Go to the tuning library for a base map. REMEMBER that copied tunes are for example and to grow off of and to get the car running. Dial in your trigger offset first before you start driving or tuning.

I may have missed a topic let me know more questions. Thanks

Also: some folks seem to get confused/intimidated by the fact that you have to cut into your engine harness to do it.

You actually don't. You runs this parallel to your computer or replace it. It's a stand alone. It has it's own wiring, power, etc.. It's really not that intimidating once you start to actually wire it. When you realize you're done you'll look back and likely realize you were over thinking it.

Just to clarify, everything is wired parallel EXCEPT the fuel injectors, IAC, and ICM (if running an ignition tune) correct? Im in the middle of wiring right now.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that? Ignore it with the things I listed in my last post?

Everything gets its own power and ground from a megasquirt specific source. Install it as if you were running it without the factory computer ever having laid wires.

What about things like ECTS and CPS? The PCM needs those signals in order for the Tachometer and Coolant Temp gauges to work.

So not share any sensors with the MS except the crank signal .. The coolant temp you can add another sensor

Yep, give the megasquirt all of its own sensor inputs. CPS is the only one you really "share"

    Hi, long time no post.
you have a better pic of your diagram there?
Comparing notes from write up I have from years ago.
Probably need to find the earlier ignition write up, or find earlier model ignition model.
