    Reality

Well reality set in and I have realized that with a wife that spends every dime that I probably won't be able to turbo my saturn this sucks so bad every time I want to buy something she says we can't afford it every time I save up we end up having extra bills fml. So unfortunately it doesn't look like I will be joining the turbo turd club even though it's been a dream for at least 4-5 years

Sounds like you need to discuss balance of power, and finances.

I set up a savings account, and direct deposit 5% of every check. It's not alot, so it's not normally missed on the monthly bills. After a few months if you are not late or going to miss any bills, spend it on your car.

The way I got out of the cycle your talking about, I've always gotten my wife newer vehicles, nice ones, and I've always driven junk so she can have a nice car. So I took my wife to a dealership to look at a car I wanted, knowing I wasn't going to buy it, test drove it with my wife. Explained while we were riding that I really wanted the car, and used my old pile of shit as an example of why I deserved the car, and told her that if we didn't get the car that I was going to turbo my wagon, because I deserve to have a nice car, just like she has.

It eased the whole, we are broke thing quite a bit.

I try to spend less than 1% on my car. Racecar included... but that is split 3 ways. Same approach to bikes.

My wife probably wouldn't care if I spent more, because I generally have my priorities straight. No debt, retirement is *heavily* funded, kids college savings is going well, etc. If our income took a hit, playing with cars would be the first thing to go. It amazes me that some people here play with them at the income levels they have.

Happens to the best of us.

Hobbies arent ever cheap, period. Prodarwin has the right idea Bikes > Cars (up to a point)

Saving money isnt ever a bad idea, and cars will always exist. You dont have to have the best of the best to get to work and enjoy your life afterward.

Buy a used mountain bike from the past decade or so and go spin some pedals, might ease the tension, give you an outlet, considerably cheaper than turboing the car and saves the car from inevitably being broken down all the time.

Or buy an RC car and spend some time modifying and playing with that.

Fights over money are a major contributor to divorce from the limited research I have done on the topic; so I would try to nip that asap.

Rc can get expensive real quick. Doesn't take long to dump 1k into a slash or crawler.

Sounds like your sandwich maker is defective. Have you tried replacing it?

Somebody made a good point. Either cough up 40-60 bucks a paycheck into savings and let it grow for a while and you'll be able to boost it then break it or just leave it N/A and make it obnoxious. My wife knows bills and kids come first then extra cash is throw at our date night's and then whatever's left after that goes into both our cars.

I think you'd be surprised how much fun you can have with bolt ons.. it's not all about maximum HP.

I did start a savings a couple of times and always seems to get depleted. Definitely not worth fighting over or getting a divorce we've been together 16 years . It's just a bummer that I won't be able to achieve my dreams. That's life! And I haven't done any auto x or any racing to speak of but it is on my bucket list. I was unaware that Saturn's had bolt on other than mainly some body and suspension

Go run a race and see what you actually need. I think you'd be surprised how much fun you can have as is with one. If you thought you were going to be world champion in one because you turbocharged it you're going to be really disappointed. They're fun but not competitive in any class that allows it. Civic/Miata simply are better really.

You can have a ton of fun cheap though with your local autocross club

There are a lot of people between here and various facebook groups that have literally never run a sanctioned event/race with giant wish lists.

If you've never raced why do you think you need XYZ to be fast?

You could have 300 HP and still be slow because YOU'RE slow. 300HP doesn't help you maintain speed through turns. 300HP doesn't help you nail your launch or shifts. 300HP doesn't help you brake correctly going into a corner and accelerate through.

There's a class for everyone. H stock solo is super competitive. People are super, super, serious about running 99.9% dead stock cars.

Full exhaust, intake , geo throttle body, a tune with a megasquirt or a piggy back should be relatively affordable even for a guy like me who has 4 kids 3 cars and barely has money to squander. Save a few a join the local autocross you'll have loads of fun and can laugh when you beat guys who have thrown money at there cars

What I'm getting at is that you don't even have a grasp on what stock can do yet but you're ready to call a dream dead. You will likely find that you can do everything you wanted in the end minus freeway drags against exotics with what you've already got.. but you'll never know sitting on the internet talking about it.
