Reserving this post for helpful data we used this year and things that I learned for next year.

First off, there will be little to no reception up there so if you have Google maps, I suggest you download the area we'll be driving in just in case you get lost or need to find a place. Here's how to do it:

BE IN WIFI!!! You also need around 50mb of room on your phone depending on how big of an area you download.
    1. Go to the drop down menu and select offline areas.
    2. Add a new offline area at the bottom right.
    3. Select the area you want to download and click download.
    4. It will ask you to name it then proceed to download.

Something I also learn is even GPS is spotty, I noticed it myself. This problem ultimately victimized one of the people who was supposed to come. So learn to read road signs and have general knowledge of your cardinal directions. Shoot, bring a compass if you have to!

    ITEMS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR CABIN:
    -Paper Plates
    -Plastic Utensils
    -Trash Bags
    -Antiseptic Wipes
    -Water
    -First Aid
    -Ingredients for meals planned
-Ziploc Bags (for left over muchies)
    -Foil
    -Disposable baking dishes
-BBQ pit, lighter, lighter fluid, charcoal (needed only if you want to BBQ)

There is a General Store on the resort that has basic grocery items if you forget something.

BRING YOUR OWN BOOZE! Fontana Village is in a dry county and it's a good hour to drive to the next county.

BRING A WALKEE TALKEE. They don't work fantastic up in the mountains, but it's virtually the only way to communicate to your group while at the resort or while driving. This is a need. I bought a set on Amazon for less than $30 shipped and that way I had an extra for someone else.

I'm in for sure, Melissa got pretty sick on the dragon itself. I may be able to convince her to come back but she probably won't be riding the dragon again lol.

I'm pretty convinced the Fiat had something to do with it. I've never felt that way in a Turd on the dragon and I even felt a little funny after the trip up.

Heeeey. Check out this nice new thread, man. I think this is the most we've posted on TOTD events collectively in years. Very encouraging.

I think some of you might remember how I got sick riding with Joe. I rode to Robinsville this year with Tony, in the back seat no less, and did not get sick. I did take Dramamine, but not until I got in the car. So, car selection seems to be a factor, but a light snack and Dramamine don't hurt.

Just for clarity, I'm in. And furthermore, I will have a Saturn that is not a Vue next year. Anybody want to sell me a 95-96 coupe? I'd like it loaded with a (working) sunroof, 5 speed, cruise, rear discs, and leather, in red, please. Basically, I want my 94 back. I'll probably never find another Iceman intake, should have kept it. I did keep the stickers. I found them last week, which made me sad. Sad and desperate. NEEDS MOAR COUPE!!!!!! <end rambling rant>

Paul you're asking a lot of you want a car with a working sunroof lol. Especially a 95-96.

I'm hoping we can get more Saturn's down next year. It is cool that the community has become more important then the turds themselves. A lot of times everyone just wants to get together but having a picture with everyone lined up across the dam would be a cool tradition to keep going.

Yes, yes, I know, lol. Maybe I should just try to track down my old 94. I actually found a 3rd gen that interests me. Nate Crowder's murdered out '01 coupe. I just have to figure out transportation (and if that is worth it). BTW, the sunroof works.

Woah, you were driving a Fiat?

Yeah, that'll make you feel nauseous. A lot of the new, tall, economy cars are very unsettling to drive quickly. My co-worker has an Abarth that's lowered and stiffer than stock and you still sit an inch or two higher than in the Saturn. Its tolerable, but I wouldn't be comfortable pushing its limits.

I'll be there, just debating whether to rent a truck and trailer the car out or just drive the sedan with AC and cruise control. It's still hotter than hell out this way in September so the drive will still suck mostly.

Haha yep it was a 500X. My wife and I road tripped all the way to Los Angeles and the Dragon was the last stop on our way home. We were originally going to take the wagon but I wasn't able to get the A/C working before we left so we rented.

    This was our trip

    July 30 Richmond Indiana,
    July 31 Chicago Illinois,
Aug 1 Rapid City South Dakota,
    Aug 2 Aspen Colorado,
Aug 3 Zion Nat. Park Utah,
Aug 4-8 Los Angeles (day trip to San Diego and Sequoia Park),
    Aug 9 Flagstaff Arizona,
    Aug 10 Oklahoma City,
    Aug 11 Nashville Tennessee,
    Aug 12 Fontana North Carolina,
    Aug 13 Home

We saw so many cool things. Did a lot of driving on good ole Route 66 on the way home. Id love to do it again so much more to see.

Here maps is another option, I like it over Google, considering I've heard rumurs they want to disable the offline option.

I don't think I'm every going to get my money back from this guy... I don't think he's on any Saturn pages since he drives an Audi. For this reason though, next year I will require payment somewhere around a month in advance for anyone staying in my cabin. That way I have time to fill a spot for whoever doesn't pay. Sorry pictures are backward.

That's the guy that made it all the way to 10 minutes away and failed to make it to Fontana? He was in Robbinsville IIRC?

No hard feelings on payment in advance.
