    Mega squirt with factory harness

Im still new to the idea of a stand alone ecm but ive been thinking about getting a mega squirt system and dissecting a factory ecm for the connector to the factory harness. Would it be possible to just pin out the factory harness connector to the mega squirt system to essentially be able to just plug and play?

Possible, but with leaving the PCM in the car and making your own harness, if the MS ever let you down, the OEM PCM would limp you home after you changed a few plugs on the engine.

Installing a megasquirt isn't difficult. I'm not sure why people repeatedly attempt to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the installation.

Thats what the idea was supposed to be to be able to just unplug the megasquirt and plug the connector back into a factory ecm if need be

That's exactly what I'm going for with my install.

Also for certian SCCA autoX classes, an aftermarket computer can be used if it fits exactly within the stock pcm footprint/case.

Thats good to know do you have a thread going for that install yet? It will be a bit till i can afford the megasquirt unit but i wanted to start figuring out what i would have to do to make it work that way. Honestly might even be able to eventually prefab a conector for the ms box that could just be plug and play. I might be wrong tho i havent dug to deep yet into it to see what is involved other than the basic concepts

Not yet. Have MS, need to thin the herd and free up some funds for a better DD before I tear into it.

If you intend to use anything but stock injectors you're setting yourself up for a headache...

Even if your MS is plug and play you're going to have to swap injectors back.

You could do the same thing by simply tying the stock fuel injector, and stock ICM harness, somewhere hidden, and simply swapping those two harnesses into their respective places should you need to limp home. 2 plugs which are much less headache to reach.

It's much simpler to run the systems in parallel, assuming it's not an autocross classing thing, especially when it comes to getting the megasquirt dialed in. Furthermore if you insist on only running one or the other you cannot use the diagnostic capabilities of the stock ecu or megasquirt to troubleshoot the other should issues arise.

Contrary to anyone who says otherwise, MSing your only DD is a bad idea. Just doesn't make sense.

You won't want to remove the OEM PCM completely, it still does things like run the fuel pump(in most cases) and run the factory guages. If you remove it and plug in a MS then you will have to get the MS to perform those duties (guages, fuel pump) much easier to leave PCM in place and run the Ms its own harness.
