I had a nice conversation with this gentlemen whilst picking up some jeep fender flares for the Splaturn from him.
He has developed his own engine dyno in his garage and tunes with megasquirt [Swapped a 1.3 Festive engine into a Miata ]

Give him a nice warm welcome. Maybe we can turn him to the dark side of modifying Saturns
Also he's all about the SOHC-life, so @ZombieSatty, you're no longer alone.

Welcome! You’ll find the SOHC Saturn engine to be highly lack luster with only 8 valves and not so great intake and head flow. You seem like you know your shit, interested to see what you come up with for the Saturns!

yeah, the DOHC engine is definitely a better engine for performance. I like the SOHC for the torque and economy. I mostly DD my Saturns and use them for towing.

I did a writeup on an alternative solution for Saturn ignition systems with Megasquirt... I reckon the post needs to be cleared by moderators because I'm a noob.

    This guy!

FYI, for torque, the DOHC has equal or greater torque across the entire powerband vs. the SOHC.

At WOT, yes. At lower throttle amounts...well we know no one has dyno data on that....lol

Greetings from the wet coast. .

I used to know a company in your town that did fuel system testing for the OEMs. iEL was the name I believe.

By the way - what do you use for your dyno? (Homemade design or other?).

He has a thread about it on GRM. Sadly Photobucket kinda killed it. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/fo...o/87005/page1/

Thanks for that GRM link. I like this “low buck” dyno approach.

    Welcome.

Also a 1.3 into a Miata? Why? Isn’t that a 3 cylinder engine? Just because? Also did the side engine mounts line up at all? I’ve always wanted to drop a B6 into a festiva from a 323.

Hi, sorry, I forgot to check this thread.

The 1.3 is a B series Mazda engine and bolts right up to the miata transmission and the engine mounts line up with the frame. Since the 1.3 is a B series engine a lot of parts can be mixed and matched. I used a bunch of 1.6 DOHC parts on the 1.3 engine to convert the 1.3 to RWD.

The 1.3 Miata project was all about making the most amount of power with the least amount of fuel.... something different. So far I have 75K miles on the car and its a hell of a lot faster than any of my Saturns.... that might not be saying much..lol

Prior to building the 1.3 Miata I built a 1.0 3cyl Miata. The 3 cylinder Miata was a huge disappointment... who would have guessed..... Anyway there are build threads on the 1.3 and the 1.0 Miatas. Unfortunately all the photos were hosted on Photobucket. The good news is you can get a plug-in for your browser that lets you see photobucket images. Google 'B3 miata' for the 1.3 and 'G10 Miata' for the 1.0 Keep in mind, you'll wast a better part of the day reading those threads.

    Hi 'ya Alex,

Sure, I'll give you a hand setting up an EDIS system for your megasquirt. Probably the hardest thing to do is to mount the EDIS wheel to your crank pulley. The electronics are easy peazy.

I made this video last year... sort of an experiment in producing and editing. The voice talent was through Fiver.

    Love it. lol

I'll make sure to mount everything up and try it out. I'll probably have to make my own Spark plug wires as well to adapt between our boots and the Ford wires.

    Hi 'ya Alex,
A coil pack from a Dodge Neon is compatible with the EDIS system and would allow you to use standard Saturn wires. There may be a few other options that I forgot.
