For what it's worth, unless you plan on more than a 100 shot, I'd run third gen rods and cut hyper pistons in a NA build. Forged rods and pistons are up around 1000grams right at twice the weight stock piston and rods are. All that extra mass = more stress on the motor, especially at higher rpms and piston speeds. The third gen rods will lower piston speeds and possibly increase torque because of the longer TDC dwell.
72 Charger: pissed me off, on jackstands.
95 SW1m: Dohc swap. DD. I can haz boost?

I wasn't planning on anything over a 75 shot. I was just thinking of forged for extra strength, but if the hypers will hold up to nitrous just fine that def saves me some money. So just stock 3rd gen rods and normal DOHC hypers just cut down a bit?
Would an overbore be worth it? I was reading a bit about the cut pistons on a tread about a 2 liter motor, I didn't see how that worked out with the overbore and cut pistons though.

Clean the bore up if it needs it, I wouldn't bore it unless it needs it. Diminishing returns.

Cool, I'm sticking with the stock bore then.

sealed power hypers arent that good. if you do use them maybe ceramic coat the face to increase life.

Stock 19lb/hr injectors are big enough so you can skip the 24's and save some cash.

Stock injectors it is then.
I know the hypers used to be good back in the day, but then they changed them and they're not as good. Would forged be worth it, or is there a different type of piston thats better?

Subbed, I'm interested to see what comes out of this, as I am gathering the parts to do the same thing on my car.
Cams (SDA Race or Street)
Are these NOS you have laying around? I am kind of curious to see how the SDA cams (if you can even find them) compare to the regrinds that people seem to be getting from American Custom Cams.

Forged pistons would probably weigh more which would be unnecessary for na application.

I actually live really close to the machine shop that used to grind the SDA cams. So I'm going to see if they can still grind a set for me.
I'll probably just stick with the hypers then, not hitting it with alot of nitrous (if I do) so it should be ok.

The piston skirts cracked on my stock rebuild with SP hypers. Never turned more than redline.

So don't use hypers? I'm confused lol. I know you said to coat them if I use them, but you also said forged is unnecessary. What can I use if I don't use hypers or forged? Are there other places that make stock replacements that are better than hypers?
Sorry for all the questions, but its been a long time since I built one of these motors, and I want to make sure I'm building something strong enough that wont break with a little bit of extra power.

It's an answer I need myself as i want to build my spare like you. Likely, the answer isn't on the shelf. I have mild cams in my closet with a quiaffe lsd. Stock rods and maybe 2g pistons cut down to zero deck for good quench ? That might give you just as thin a ringland though.

Gotcha, yeah that might be pretty thin.
I'll have to decide if the extra weight is worth the durability of the forged then. Have to think on that one, don't want some crap hypers that aren't going to last.

I would say I got lucky but I've seen someone else post pictures on FB of their SP pistons with same exact failure

Quick question. BRP? A new company I haven’t heard of or home brew parts? Sorry if it is a stupid question.
-
BRP is Blainer Racing Products. He makes a bunch of different stuff for Saturns. Long tube header, dog bones, spark plug covers, coolant bottle delete, civic half rad kits, turbo manifolds/downpipe, intakes, and a bunch of other stuff. I found them on Facebook, never used any of his products, but I'm going to try some of them.

Interesting...I may have to give them a call about those. See if they still offer them. Thanks for the info!
