Sixthsphere Runs the Dragon 2018
I'm breaking the ice, nice and early. I would like to get plans running for Tail of the Dragon this year. Aiming for July 13-15. Gauging interest from people and the best possible weekend for most. I will be personally hosting a Hemlock cabin this year at Fontana Village. It sleeps 4 people and will runs $183/night for TWO nights, a Friday-Sunday stay. I'm sure we can squeeze in 5 people bringing the price down to $83 per person after taxes and resort fees ($103 for 4 people). Then we can coordinate who brings what such as food, and cabin supplies. I will begin a list of people who are going below so we knock how many cabins to book and who is hosting any additional cabins. You will be paying your cabin host! I have copy and pasted what I paste every year because of previous experiences from members and myself. Read the details!
We can also plan about what activities we'd like to do while we're up there. I know a couple years ago we took a cruise through the Smokey Mountains which was fun, and hiked up to Klingman's Dome. We also cruise to Gatlinburg and there is a lot to do there, however I'm not sure how much has changed since those bad fires. Hope we get many together this year!

First off, there will be little to no reception up there so if you have Google maps, I suggest you download the area we'll be driving in just in case you get lost or need to find a place. Here's how to do it:
BE IN WIFI!!! You also need around 50mb of room on your phone depending on how big of an area you download.
1. Go to the drop down menu and select offline areas.
2. Add a new offline area at the bottom right.
3. Select the area you want to download and click download.
4. It will ask you to name it then proceed to download.
Something I also learn is even GPS is spotty, I noticed it myself. This problem ultimately victimized one of the people who was supposed to come. So learn to read road signs and have general knowledge of your cardinal directions. Shoot, bring a compass if you have to!

ITEMS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR CABIN:
-Paper Plates
-Plastic Utensils
-Trash Bags
-Antiseptic Wipes
-Water
-First Aid
-Ingredients for meals planned
-Ziploc Bags (for left over muchies)
-Foil
-Disposable baking dishes
-BBQ pit, lighter, lighter fluid, charcoal (needed only if you want to BBQ)
There is a General Store on the resort that has basic grocery items if you forget something.
BRING YOUR OWN BOOZE! Fontana Village is in a dry county and it's a good hour to drive to the next county.
BRING A WALKEE TALKEE. They don't work fantastic up in the mountains, but it's virtually the only way to communicate to your group while at the resort or while driving. This is a need. I bought a set on Amazon for less than $30 shipped and that way I had an extra for someone else.

I vote for an early July trip. My whole relocation to Japan means no Aug-Sept for me.

I'm voting specifically on dates that Alex cannot be there....

serisously though, i'm ok with July. i'll just have to pack a lot of water since the Datsun does not have AC.

Cabin rates might be more expensive in early July because of the holiday. I'll check other weekends when I get home.

Booking the cabin in July is $183/night not including taxes and resort fees. $30 more per night than Aug. Not a huge increase. About $12 per person for the weekend. So we're looking at each person paying $80-90 now.

Laura and I would be interesting in going but wouldn't be able to do early July. Have a big family get together every year for the 4th.

Okay. Maybe we can shoot for July 13-15? Alex, would that work for you?

Subscribed and should be good to go this year. Last year had way too much going on.

Fine by me. I'll be taking the Honda so I won't fit in either.
I plan to do Tein Coilovers and Progress rear swaybar on it in the spring.

I guess I'll throw in my "maybe" as usual. It's too far out to know for me what the fam will be doing etc. Hell, even what car I'll bring at this point is a guess.
Not sure if I could bring myself to do it in a non Sseries, though.
Is my SL one of the few Dragon veterans still kicking around the community?
-
Eh, somewhat. Brett and Alex still have theirs. Hey I'm brining a Saturn! Just not a s-series lol.

And Joe's coupe, but I think he had a wagon too? Whatever, i didn't mean to humble brag, was more a legit question of who and which cars are still around. Something for another thread.

It's looking like my assignment start date and ship date are earlier than indicated on the sheet they sent me.
I'm kinda SOL for this one. And the next one. lol

I'll bring my CBR down for some hot laps on my own just cuz. I need to wear out my new tires before it gets stored forever.
