    Windshield Replacement

Anyone ever do a windshield replacement on a gen 1? Mine is cracked badly and can't pass inspection in its current condition. In my quest to be a cheap ass, I was thinking of replacing it myself. I can get one from a jy for ~$100 and tools would cost another $50. Safelite quote is $300. Thoughts?

Let the professionals do it. Every windshield I've tried to do has been a debacle.

I'll admit, I put new glass in my old Samurai. Granted, that was flat and I used an aftermarket lexan/poly windshield.

Its cold out and probably not worth you time in the long run. Shell out the coin to get it done right.

I recently tried installing my own tires on my motorcycle wheels and wasted a bunch of time. Sometimes the convenience of getting it professionally done is just worth it.

Alright, ya'll talked me out of it..lol. These quotes are crazy tho...$310 is the cheapest at safelite. Goes up to $550 for a local shop. Talking with one person, it sounds like this piece of glass is starting to get rare. A couple of shops couldn't get one at all.

Safelite is a good place to get it done from. Free chip repair and checks later on. I jumped on the $300 windshield from them on the wagon 2 years ago. Like you said everywhere else is wanting 500-660 for one. Only real issue is they can’t fit it on their truck for the mobile install. Can’t be too picky I guess. Lol
