yet another turbo question/debate by dustbin.

Ok so it’s officially 2018, and we’ve lost a lot of turbo guys in here. Turbo guys who where on a quest tobuild some crazy power turbo cars.

well, I sold the mustang recently for those who haven’t heard and I’m putting more focus on the turd I have owned it for 3 years now and have had so much hate for denying and trying to avoid not putting performance into it because I was more focused on the stang. Well things have changed I’ve spent more time on the turd than everything and I’ve fell in love with the thing strangely.

So a dohc and 5 speed swap soon to come.

id like to do boost since I already have a turbo kit.

im not familiar with turbo builds and I don’t really want to get extremely technical with it. I still want to be able to drive the car as a cruiser and still want it to be reliable.

i don’t plan on daily driving it anymore I’m beginning to hate driving a stanced car everyday.

Honestly I’d like to stay between 3-5 pounds of boost.

do I actually have to go with MS (megasquirt) or are there any other options that would be better. I have came across this forum and thought it was pretty interesting http://saturnpioneer.m.webs.com/site...etwork=fw#0032

if possible to use the stock ecu and put a chip chip in it or something that would be good info.

Again im not trying to build the baddest Saturn on the planet. I’m just trying to build a tuner car to take to shows have something to look at under the hood and to make a little more power and surprise people once they hear the blow off valve.

The turbo kit I have is a cheap Raceway turbo kit.

so I’d obviously have to get a better turbo and do something about fuel management and maybe boost control am I right on that or am I wrong. If you look up that kit and see anything else I will need.

Its possible to chip a 1G ECU, but that is a road not commonly traveled, especially since a 1G car doesn't need to support OBD2 anyway. So tossing it for a MS is kind of the easy button.

I have never boosted anything, but from watching 10+ years of people doing it here, problems come from one of the following things usually:

    1) shitty chinese ebay parts. A lot of manifolds will crack. Not sure about the OBX.
    2) shitty install/user error. intercooler clamps pop off, poor witing, etc.
    3) bad tune
    4) greedy. turn up the boost and eventually you'll pop the motor.

If you can make sure that manifold wont crack, do a solid job securing everything and building it right, and you only run 5psi, you might have a solid build that will last forever.

The only things I have against MS is it looks like a very tedious stystem and it’s very complex to hook up.

most of the tune shops around me don’t like to tune MS they prefer other stand alone computers.
and well I’m not a computer guy. I’d rather have an experienced tuner, tune my car when it’s put together.

Also the turbo manifold the kit came with is a obx

I wouldn’t know... I’m not really worried about how much power isn’t be making I’m just wanting to try to keep it as simple as possible very low boost nothing crazy. To make 350whp I have no idea how you plan on doing that unless you plan on doing a lot more mods and spend a lot of time on a tune that most likely isn’t going to do very well. If you put too much boost in these things tuning it the right way seems to be an even more tedious job from what I gathered. And have seen what others have gone through ever since I joined the Saturn community 3 years ago.

The first step before putting any of the turbo junk on the car is to get it to run on the Megasquirt while NA.
Once you've got it running and feel comfortable tuning like that, then you can add all the other stuff on.

MS is the hard part. Bolting on parts is easy.

A different car. Or an Ecotec. :P

I have no idea really. Not a lot of Saturns have a good track record of surviving that power level. If it were me, I'd stop at around 220 and just make it reliable.

I'd much rather be racing than fixing the car... he said, as the next RallyX event rapidly approached while the Bentra sat on jackstands, not working.

I physically can’t tune megasquirt because I’m I experienced and I don’t trust myself with it. Like I have stated I want to take it to a tuner to tune. And non of the tune shops around here like to install and tune MS. I have no idea how to hook unit up because you have to Sauter the ecu wires to MS. That takes someone with tons of patience and electronic knowledge and knowing which wire goes to what.

NO tee fitting is needed. Use one of the two oil galley plugs on the back of the engine. You can get the plug thread to an AN-3 fitting for the oil feed.
I forget the size of the block thread. Maybe 14mmX1.5 but I'm not sure; don't take my word for it.

If you want something other then MS I sell Electromotive systems and can hook you up with everything you need.

I've done a number of installs and quite a few tunes.

If you go with cams and injectors that I have a tune mapped out for I can sell you a unit and send you a base tune that will start and drive the car.

I have a good write up stickied in the performance section. Check it out and don't hesitate to message me if you have any questions.

I used SDS EIC on a stock motor and beat the snot out of it with a max boost of 7 PSI for a long while and it was reliable. 10 PSI and no timing control is when shit went down hill! But on 7 psi it was quick, fun and very reliable.
