    Cylinder bulge?

After pulling the head off last night, I found that Cyl. 4 had some ridges on what feels like a bulge in the cylinder wall. I haven't pulled the piston to see what it looks like, but Im assuming this is worthy of needed a rebore.

Here are the shot from last night:

I don't have a bore gauge to measure. But I'll spin the motor to see how the pistons/rings move around it.

Here's a video of the piston clearance. I knew that there was additional clearance for piston growth, but not that much. Cylinder 4 was a bit sloppier than the rest.

I'll pull things out tonight and put them in baggies. Tomorrow I'll bring them up to Schmidt racing to see how much material they think needs to come out to get that ridge out. Then I'll order pistons based on that information.

Curious whats your piston to head clearance with the OEM gasket? those pistons look terrible for any quench (detonation supression)

If those are stock sleeves then i would find a new block. If GE sleeves then rebore it and get bigger pistons.

Jolted awake at 4am and found myself compelled to pull the block apart. Here is what the piston from Cyl 4 turned out...lolol

The intake side of the HG on Cyl 4 was straight toasted, so that most likely introduced coolant onto that side of the piston turning the once smooth surface into something that looks sandblasted. That is unless you think detonation could cause pitting like that. Cyl 1 got some of this as well since the HG was blown on that side too.

that would probably be the result of detonation if i had to guess, although its weird. if youre getting coolant into the chamber it should be part steam engine

Well since coolant contains Ethylene glycol, would you call this Eth-injection?

I'll pull the rest of the garbage off of the block and will drag it to a shop in Indy tomorrow to gauge if I wanna use them and how much material needs to come out to un-bump the cylinders.

Well fear not, because rednecks still get wet about circle track racing neons and other 4cyl shit. You should be good. Haha

Brought the block up to Schmidt Automotive in Indy. Their "block guy" won't be in until Monday according to the other machinist.

Got a call back from the machine shop. The guy said it would only take .5mm over to remove what he's calling "the ripples" in the cylinder. lol

I'll bug Ross to get some new pistons going. May just go with 85mm to allow more machining to be done in the future if need-be.

Anyone know how many CCs a stock head is? I'm gonna step down to 9.5:1 for these new pistons and probably need to provide that information.

You need to measure the CC volume in your heads. theres going to be casting variances. you're buying new pistons, might as well measure and make everything to your specs!

I've got a measuring cup and a turkey baster. That accurate enough, right? I'll convert it to teaspoons so they have it in metric.

I'm gonna go pick up some clear plastic/acrylic plates and one of these oral do-hickeys from petsmart to measure out the volume:
