Hey All. SUPERCHARGED 97 SL1 on the way

Hi guys. I'm James and I live in Las Vegas here. I work full time as a mechanic. I have a 97 SL1 5sp. I picked it up about 4 months ago for 300 bux. Came with 219k at 226k now. Right now it's got much intake located under the battery tray. A noise maker muffler but it doesnt sound terrible. Cars great valve cover leaked but I fixed that and painted the cover whilst I was in there. Long term is to supercharge it using the screw type charger that comes on Mazda Millenia S. I'll have to dig around the net for my equation to break down engines speed and intake VS the output of the charger . The equation helps me make the right ratio for any psi I choose. Itll be intercooler and ran with Mega as soon as I figure out the cheapest way to go for a low boost functional daily. I want to spend as little as possible but I will spend what's needed. I actually live in my shops yard so my car can be down if need be. I'll be doing a DOHC swap. I dont want to swap motor because from what I read sohc bottom plus sohc head equal lower compression. And that means less likelyhood of detonation right...correct me in anything I get wrong please lol. More to update later.

    UPCOMING MODS:

    Custom front strut bar
    Aluminum Honda Half Core radiator

Welcome. Don't supercharge a motor with the SOHC head. It never fails to disappoint.

Also the Millenia superchargers tend to have the seals shit the bed causing oil to leak into the intake. So unless you want to add another source of oil consumption, look at a better option, like the supercharger off of an LSJ.

Yeah I won't be doing anything to the sohc motor except make the valve cover pretty. And random supporting mods on suspension and interior. I dont mind the known issues with the SC. I've researched that SC for many years. I'll rebuild it with fresh seals. Parts wont be an issue because at SEMA this year I made a POC with IHI and she happens to know where I can get fresh parts. Plus i got the compressor map for that SC which I've been looking for for years lol...I'll post pics later tonight under a member ride. Tryna put new front seats in today.

PS. I had to look up what LSJ is but I have no desire to run a roots. The screw is more efficient and less heat.

Small turbos can make boost quite rapidly yet do it more efficiently and you can still have A/C. Just sayin!
No matter what you chose good luck and I can help with the engine management side of things if you haven't figured that out yet.

I know I could spool a small quick turbo but I need to be different hence playing with a saturn SL anyways...Supercharged saturn to spank ricey hondas is totally worth and headaches that are a side effect of boosting and tuning a saturn lol

I've done both, AUTO X was the only place I preferred the super charger.

On the street and track the turbo wins.

That's great to hear because Auto X is the reason I'm even modifying anything.

Andrew Cerise has the supercharger. He said he's not on here though. Maybe try to find him in messenger.

It's not my fault, blame the radiation.

Fair enough and a valid point . I guess I just always like the aesthetics. Either way looking forward to progress on this.

I forgot to mention turbos make 4 cylinders sound a lot less like a bee hive. Super chargers on the other hand make the bee hive effect louder
