    Transmission shifting is bonkers

Auto trans. 190k miles. Its shifting is delayed and/or super hard. If you accelerate at a pretty high throttle position, its fine. If you get it to kick down to down shift, it does a 2-step thing and its clunky as hell.

    I'm guessing valve body.

How involved is fixing this? Is this something I can take off, clean, and reinstall? It would make selling this a bit easier. Or is it not worth my time?

Replacing a Valve body is pretty easy. Low Saturn posted the actual Saturn training video [Go to 17:25]:

Ignore parts about loosening the Brake master cylinder and pulling actuators out. This is all assuming that you replace the valve body with a reman piece. SpecialForces may still have reman units for purchase.

If your trans has been slamming, your input and output shaft nuts may be loose as well. You'll need to remove the side cover of the trans to tighten those.

Yeah, I was going to snag a reman off ebay. Are new gaskets usually needed? They are expensive.

Also, 21:44 shows the center trans mount that most of us have never seen.

Not sure about the gasket. I sent Joe a message on LinkedIn for you since he's disappeared off of FB.

The valve body cover gasket will be needed. Its a paper gasket that always tears when you remove the cover. Its also a dick to remove as it tends to "glue" itself in place.

Joe mentioned that the later gen transmissions had a gasket with a metal layer that was possible to reuse. You just need to take care when removing it.
