This is the SC2A that I just replaced the valve cover gasket on.
Synopsis:
- 2001 Sc2A
- Been sitting for 2 months with no attempt to start
- Previously started right up
- Just replaced valve cover gasket and replaced spark plugs thinking that gasket failure and fouled plugs were the cause of the no-start.
Fresh plugs and gasket and sopped up any excess oil on top the pistons.
Fuel pressure is present at the schraeder valve.
Battery is good.
Starter motor is good, or seems to be.
Turn the key and it cranks, ignition begins, and then fails. I can hear the initial FOOM in the cylinder, but that's it.
Gonna try starter fluid just to see if I can get it to go at all.
There must be some underlying problem that I missed.
Any ideas?
I found this thread over in Saturnfans which sounds exactly like my problem, Oldnuc's answer at #9 seems to cover all the bases.
Will work through that and update here.

SUCCESS!!!
I followed Oldnuc’s procedure, except for new wires, and she sputtered to life. Ran rough for a few minutes then evened out.
FYI, if you need to get oil into your cylinders, a plastic syringe and some 1/4 tubing works great.

Have you tested the battery starter or alternator I just recently had the same problem with my 99 sc2 changed the battery and she started right up

Not sure what all the nuc stuff it, but from what you describe it sounds like it had a pass lock issue.
If it persists then you will need to replace the ignition cylinder. There is a magnet in the cylinder that sends a signal to the housing. The magnets tended get a crack in them and when they shifted a little they would produce a slightly different magnetic field on the sensor causing the BCM to see a signal that was not "learned."

I just followed the procedure as outlined by Oldnuc on Saturnfans and it started. I make no claims as to what was the actual problem, only that following that procedure worked and now the car starts easily.
I suppose there could have been a pass lock issue since one step in the procedure was to pull PCM fuse B and then turn the key to run and let it sit like that for a bit. And the ignition cylinder is definitely a bit wonky.
How would I go about checking for this cracked magnet?
